Purnima: dates and pujas
Purnima is the full moon day. It is the fifteenth day of the bright half (Shukla Paksha) of each Hindu lunar month, so it comes once a month. Some Purnimas are major festivals, such as Guru Purnima, Sharad Purnima and Kartik Purnima.
Why people observe Purnima
Many families keep a fast on Purnima, pray for peace and wellbeing, and give to charity. The full moon is seen as a time of fullness and blessings, which makes it a popular day for Satyanarayan Katha and for starting new things.
